Timofei Scriabin (born in 1967, 54 kg) – Honored Master of Sports, Moldovan boxing legend, participated within 400 battles, of which 352 has won. At the age of 12, Timofei was practicing boxing under the guidance of the Balti coach, V. Ghesele. In 1985 comes to Chisinau and continues training with the coach Alexander Scripnic. The Honored Moldovan and Ukrainian Coach, A. Scripnic, has trained the Soviet Union Team, which included the brother of Timofei, the Soviet Cup bronze medalist in 1986, Sergei Scriabin, who currently resides in Poltava city, for a period of 6 years.

On the eve of the Olympic Games in Seoul, Timofei Scriabin became bronze medalist of the Soviet Union Championship held in Kaunas (1987) and Tashkent (1988). However, the USSR Olympic team he joined a bit later. Only after the International Tournament held in Leningrad where, in the most difficult fight, he defeats the URSS-88 Champion, A. Pacheev, and in the final battle defeats the Cuban A. Reies, he is given the due attention. In 1988, at the Olympic Games in Seoul, Timofei Scriabin (51 kg) becomes the first OG medalist in the Moldovan boxing history, losing the semifinal with the future champion – Chim Cvan Sun (photo) from South Korea. Then, only four Soviet boxers reached the semifinals of the Olympic Games: Timofei Scriabin (bronze, 51 kg), Veaceslav Ianovschii (gold, 63, 5 kg), Nurmagomed Sanavazov (silver, 81 kg) from Russia and Alexandru Mirosnicenco (bronze, over 91kg) from Kazakhstan.

This was followed by a victory in the new weight category (54 kg) within the Frunze USSR Championship (1989) and a silver medal at the European Championships in Athens (1989), where T. Scriabin was defeated only by the Bulgarian boxer S. Todorov. At the 56th USSR Championship in Lutsk (1990) Timofei won the gold medal, and in the 57th USSR Championship in Kazan (1991) – the silver one. In 1993, Timofei becomes the champion of the CIS, wins the bronze medal at the Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg (1994) and at the World Cup (Beijing - 98). Timofei Scriabin graduated from the National Institute of Physical Education and Sports, is married, and has two daughters.

OUR FUTURE

During the last few years, our young boxers obtained very good results. They win medals in almost each European competition.

A good example in this respect is Alexandru Riscan, a young boxer from Tiraspol. In 2004, he became the winner of the European Championship among students (aged up to 15 years). A year later, he won silver within the European Championship among cadets (aged up to 17 years). Alexandru obtained his second silver medal in 2002, within the European Championship among cadets as well. Another success of the young athlete was achieved while boxing in the junior category in the Serbian town of Sombor. Alexandru won twice, and only in the semifinal he was defeated by his opponent from Russia. Thus, he won the European Championship bronze medal. Alexandru refines his skills being guided by Maxim Certicovtev and Anatol Dovgopol.

Another gold medal within the European Championship among students was obtained in 2006 by Maxim Postoiuc, a young boxer, also from Tiraspol (coach: Maxim Certicovtev). In 2005, the highest step of the European Championship among pupils’ podium was climbed by the Chisinau boxing school pupil, Vitalie Bodarau (coach: Grigore Liutii).

Excellent results are obtained by the young boxers from the Grimancauti boxing school. In 2004, within the European Championship among pupils, Roman Todosciuc and Vasile Mateiciuc won bronze medals. Veaceslav Daniliuc, from Chisinau, returned home with a bronze medal as well.

In 2005, at the European Championship, our pupils, Ion Procopisin (Grimancauti) and Iurie Rachiu (Hincesti) have come to the fore by winning the bronze medals.

In 2006, the Moldovan boxing has added to its award collection another four bronze medals won in the European Championship among pupils. These were achieved by Viorel Berzoi (Grimancauti, coach: Petru Caduc); Radj Sopesco (Balti, coach: Alexandru Curosu), Alexandru Iutis (Cahul, coach: Andrei Timascov), Gherd Lapteacru (Chisinau, coach: Mihail Lapteacru).

In 2003, within the Junior World Championship in South Korea, Anatol Andreev (Tiraspol, coach: Victor Cazanji) ranked third, and in 2004, at the European Championship among cadets, in Saratov, the „bronze” was won by Serghei Chiscul (Transnitria, coach: Valeriu Gnoevoi).

The bronze medal of the European Championship among cadets in 2005 was obtained by Igor Lupu (coach: Andrei Gusan).
